In what may be a new level of targeting voters, the Mitt Romney campaign has started running campaign ads at gas pumps in the Philadelphia area, along with twelve other major metropolitan areas, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer:

Mitt Romney’s campaign has found the perfect way to remind voters right at the gas pump how much a gallon of fuel has increased under President Obama.

An ad created for those flat screen TVs atop pumps, is set to begin airing at up to 60 gasoline stations in the greater Philadelphia area, including a few in the Lehigh Valley, campaign officials say.

In the 40-second spot, a gas pump displays 2009’s regional average price of $1.85 a gallon. As audio excerpts of Obama speeches play, the counter ticks higher, pausing at $3.69 a gallon, roughly today’s price.

Take a look at the ad:

We will not know how effective these ads were until election night. Until then, we need to realize we live in a new age of specialized target marketing. Can you think of other specific examples of targeting this specialized?

Football Was In Trouble In 1979 Too

The National Football League seems to always be the subject of objections. This ad appeared in Sports Illustrated 33 years ago, in 1979. Apparently all levels of football were in trouble back then. Football is now bigger than ever, at every level imaginable. Apparently, John Underwood didn’t think football would be where it is today, 33 years ago.

Did you read this book at any point? If you did and you recall the parallels between then and now, I’d be interested in hearing your feedback.

I am a big fan of James Bond movies. With the coming release of Skyfall, the latest in the James Bond film series comes the latest in the James Bond ads. This ad for Omega features what looks to be a lot of clips from Skyfall, starring Daniel Craig as 007.
